Meet The Team

Owner and head black-belt instructor

Michael Oberdick

“I walked into my first Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy in 2002 while living in Miami, Florida. I wasn’t even
sure what Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was and had no idea what to expect. What I found was not only a
martial art, but a lifestyle that would impact every facet of my life. I began studying under Pedro
and Gui Valente, both native Brazilians who received their black belts from Helio Gracie. I
studied, I trained, and I eventually earned my blue belt. That was my first big step. In 2004 I
found myself back in my hometown of York, PA, and with no direction. It is said that
when the pupil is ready the teacher will come. In 2008 he did just that. A black belt named
Daniel Beleza immigrated to the United States from Fortaleza, Brazil, and found himself in PA.
Daniel is a true champion in every sense of the word. His lineage includes the world famous
Nova Uniao and SAS Jiu Jitsu teams. In 2013, after years of work and lessons learned, I
received the coveted Black Belt. Being the second American ever to receive this honor from
Daniel was one of my proudest moments.”

Adult Class Instructor

Stephen Rodriguez

Stephen began his training at Zero Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2014, under the tutelage of Michael
Oberdick. After receiving his brown belt in 2019, He began to help teach kids classes and
kickboxing while continuing to actively pursue Jiu Jitsu competitively at the local and national
level.

Adult Class Instructor

Shayne Neiderer

“I started training BJJ in 2017. I was an avid UFC/MMA fan. I was severely overweight and super
unhealthy so I decide to make a change. When I took my first Jiu Jitsu class I was hooked! It
was different from anything I’d ever tried. When I started training at Zero under Mike, I found a
family. I’m forever grateful for him and everything this sport has done for me.”

Kid’s Class Instructor

Bob Stuntz

Originally a Maryland native, I have lived and worked in York, PA since 2008. Professionally, I
am an ER doctor with specialized training and experience in medical education. While I was
somewhat familiar with BJJ due to having friends who trained, my first formal introduction was in
January of 2017. My older son, who was 7 at the time, was having some trouble in school, and
a friend who trained recommended the kids Jiu Jitsu class at Zero as a way to help grow his
confidence. After 6 months, my son challenged me to give it a try, and I have been training ever
since. The next year, my younger son and wife began training as well. In the fall of 2018, I was
fortunate enough to be able to begin helping coach the kids class. I consider teaching and
education to be an important part of my life, and helping with the kids class gives me an
incredibly fun outlet for that. Working with the kids is always one of the highlights of my week. I
love seeing them gain poise, athleticism and coordination, and of course an important life skill.
Most importantly, however, I enjoy seeing them build confidence and self esteem. I truly believe
Jiu Jitsu is one of the best things you can do for your kids (and for yourself), and I feel fortunate
to be able to help.

Kid’s Class Instructor

William Bernath

William is a Police officer with 12+ years experience, currently assigned to The York County
SWAT Team. He has been training Jiu Jitsu at Zero for over 5 years and is currently a purple
belt. He is also an assistant coach in our children’s program.
Billy says, “I love BJJ because it forces you to be in the present moment. I have developed life
long friendships and connections on the mat with people from all walks of life.”

Kid’s Class Instructor

Kari Stuntz

Kari began training Jiu Jitsu in 2018 after seeing how much fun her son was having in the kids
class. She quickly developed a love for the sport and is currently a purple belt. She is
passionate about encouraging women to take part in BJJ and loves the active female
community at Zero. When she is not on the mats she is a wife, mom to her boys and dogs, and
works as a dentist.

Morning Instructor

Justin Aldinger

Justin started Jiu Jitsu in 2008. He was looking to lose weight and increase overall health. What

others become the best version of themselves. In 2020 Justin earned his Black Belt from
Professor Michael Oberdick. He currently teaches our 5:30-7:00 Am classes.
